TASER X3 Civilian (X3C) - Pending Release Update 8/16/2010: According to TASER International, high price point and adequate consumer training concerns have put release of the X3C unit on hold.
Over the past decade, TASER Electronic Control Devices (ECDs) have become widely recognized as a safe & effective less-lethal response to resistance or attack. While TASERs have revolutionized law enforcement & security, and given responsible citizens an effective defense opton, there has always been one significant drawback: single shot capability. At best, an officer or citizen in the heat of conflict can attempt to reload. At worst, this scenario may escalate to other force options, serious injury, and even death to the user if an operator misses or faces multiple subjects. Today, with breakthrough multi-shot technology, the TASER X3C provides the ability to deploy a second and third cartridge immediately, and can simultaneously incapacitate up to three subjects with a single TASER unit.

Rotational-Pulse Drive
The TASER X3C features "Rotational-Pulse Drive", which delivers TASER's patented "Shaped Pulse" discharges sequentially to multiple electrode sets, and rotates the pulses across multiple cartridge bays up to 45 times per second. This alternation of electrical output across multiple cartridges allows a single X3C to incapacitate up to three subjects simultaneously, with the same effectiveness as three separate TASER X26 ECDs. Rotational-Pulse Drive also supports cross-connection, or "X-Connect", so that a combination of top and bottom probes from any of active firing bays can form an effective NMI circuit, improving effectiveness and likelihood of incapacitation.

Precision Shaped Pulse & Pulse Calibration System
The Pulse Calibration System constantly optimizes the output of the Rotational-Pulse Drive to deliver the precise amount of electric charge needed to cause optimal incapacitation while enhancing safety. This continuous monitoring and adjustment of electrical output yields a Precision Shaped Pulse that provides more consistent effects on the target and a margin of safety up to 40% greater than previous ECD technology. In addition to recording calibration data, the system can provide the operator a real-time visual icon on the color display to indicate whether the system is maintaining electrical connection to the target with easy to identify visual green / yellow / red icons.

Smart Cartridge
The new Smart Cartridge communicates with the Fire Control System within the X3, indicating the type of cartridge loaded in each bay, as well as its deployment status. The Smart Cartridge contains the nitrogen propulsion system, probes, TASER wire, and Anti-Felon Identification (AFID) tags sealed behind a rugged, weatherproof blast door. The new static-resistant propulsion system allows the X3 to display NMI arcs without firing the cartridge – which also reduces the risk of accidental static discharge misfires.

Charge Diffusion Probes
The X3 probes that connect the TASER wire to the subject are optimized to preferentially deliver the NMI pulses to the surface of the body, rather than through the tip of the probe when fully inserted into the body. This provides enhanced safety margins when the probes are fully inserted near the heart, channeling electric charge toward the surface of the body and away from the internal organs.
